Problem
ARDEX Sales Professional Tim Moser was contacted by Stiles Construction to meet at the jobsite for the Trump International Hotel & Tower to review leveling needs for the project. The luxury building located on the Ft. Lauderdale Beach is 24 stories with 298 condo units.


After the first meeting project managers dismissed ARDEX as too costly. Three months later Tim Moser was asked to visit the jobsite again. Again, the project managers wanted to review lower cost options. Two months later Tim Moser visited the jobsite with ARDEX Architectural Specialist Ben Mack and met with Jim Bettelli of Oscar Garcia Architects and a building owners representative. They suggested a demo of ARDEX V-1200 be conducted, but the project managers still balked at the idea, wanting to still pursue other options.


Two additional months went by and the Senior Project Manager, Joe Darnaby asked Tim back to the site and explained that they were down to ARDEX or a gypcrete product. After Tim explained the mold issues associated with gypcrete products, Joe stated “Mold, you might as well have said asbestos”. Tim provided some articles and other technical info about mold problems with gypcrete.

Solution
A one condo demo using ARDEX V-1200, with the ARDEX Pump was conducted. In addition to the performance of the product, project managers were concerned about protecting the already painted condos to ensure that no damage would be done to the walls during the installation. The demo was highly successful demonstrating the ease of installation and the extraordinary performance of the product. The installation of ARDEX V 1200 was awarded to Pumpet Systems an experienced ARDEX contractor and the distribution was through John Abell Corp. an ARDEX distributor partner.


Approximately 15,000 bags of ARDEX V-1200, 22 truckloads was used throughout the building and to correct some severe leveling issues in the 5,000 sq. ft. lobby.


From of the ARDEX Tile & Stone Installation System, ARDEX X 5™ and ARDEX X 9™ thin sets were used with the ARDEX 8+9™ Waterproofing System for the installation of the 5,000 sq. ft. pool deck.
